Sample the sweet, succulent fruits, sip on a revitalizing “anti-aging drink,” and enjoy the refreshing taste of coconut water as you soak in the lively atmosphere.

In the peaceful Hoa An village, you’ll experience a different side of the Mekong Delta. Wander through fragrant flower fields, each bloom a testament to the locals’ dedication and care. Then, hop aboard a motor trishaw for a ride to another village, where you’ll meet the local families who expertly craft intricate conical hats, a symbol of Vietnamese culture. NOV 2

Gieng Island / Hong Ngu

You can’t help but admire the slow pace of life in Gieng Island. Here, in a charming local village, the art of traditional boat making is alive and well. Skilled artisans meticulously hand-build iconic sampans on a daily basis, keeping this cherished tradition quite literally – afloat. A ride on a “xe loi” (motor trishaw) adds a touch of whimsy to this day’s journey, winding through lush greenery towards the tranquil Phanxico Monastery, a place of quiet reflection.

We will continue to the unspoiled haven of Hong Ngu, an island village near the Cambodian border renowned for its skilled weavers. On this side of the island, the art of crafting traditional Khmer scarves is passed down through generations.

Prior to the arrival of the Mekong Princess, the inhabitants of this area had encountered few Western visitors, making their warmth and hospitality even more genuine and heartfelt. You’ll have the opportunity to connect with these friendly locals, admire their intricate embroidery, and experience a world of artistry rarely seen by outsiders.

Though a somber experience, visiting these sites is crucial to appreciating the resilience and spirit of the Cambodian people, who have emerged from such darkness into a more hopeful present.

Back at the boat, get ready to be mesmerized by a cultural performance showcasing a variety of traditional folk dances and Apsara, Cambodia’s national dance.
